Navassa Volunteer Fire Department

Bobbitt completed the 11,400-square-foot Navassa Volunteer Fire Department station, a project that ranked 54 on the “100 Recovery Act Projects that are Changing America,” a report released by Vice President Joe Biden.

Navassa Volunteer Fire Department completed a thorough FEMA grant application to obtain funding for the project. Navassa was ultimately one of 100 fire departments in the nation that was awarded a FEMA Station Construction Grant.

The station was named Brown/Moore Memorial Facility in memory of former Fire Chief Clarence Brown and former Chairman of the Board James Moore. Features include a 5,500-square-foot double drive-through apparatus bay capable of housing eight full-sized pumpers. The facility also has a vehicle exhaust removal system, fire alarm/sprinkler system, kitchen, two laundry rooms, decon room, conference room, training room, gym, day room, server room, storage rooms, utility room/workshop, radio room, three offices, three dorms, learning lab/library, and four bathrooms.

Located in Brunswick County, the Navassa station was designed to withstand high winds associated with the coastal climate, as well as seismic considerations.
